In its 2019 “State of the City” report, the Pew Charitable Trust – an independent non-profit, non-governmental research organization – announced that in 2016, only 2.5 percent of businesses in Philadelphia were Black-owned. This is despite the fact that 41 percent of Philadelphia’s population is Black. While this fact may seem shocking, it is no new occurrence. In 2014, only 2.4 percent of businesses in Philadelphia were Black-owned. This dangerous trend reflects the urgency to make much needed investments in the young Black entrepreneurs and business professionals in Philadelphia and throughout our region.
Through the Level Up Summit, the AACC’s annual young professional conference, the AACC seeks to address this issue head on. This two-day summit will kick off with a cocktail attire opening reception followed by a daylong conference full of professional development workshops and educational panels with industry leaders. Attendees will gain the skills needed to move up in their careers, make meaningful connections and move their businesses forward.
